The 14,00sqm rooftop farm will grow one tonne of seasonal fruit and vegetables a day.
Urban farming specialists Agripolis and Cultures en Ville have created the world’s largest rooftop farm at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, Europe’s largest conference site, which is currently being redeveloped.
The 14,00sqm farm, located on the new Pavilion 6, will grow fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices for direct sale to the public and also supplied to partnering restaurant Le Perchoir.
The farm uses a growing technique called ‘aeroponics’, whereby crops are arranged vertically, above ground in columns to be fed by rain water and organic nutrients.
In season, more than a tonne of 30 different fruit and vegetables will be harvested every day by 20 market gardeners, although local residents will also be able to get involved.
In 2018, Agripolis installed a farm on the roof of Sodexo headquarters at Issy-les-Moulineaux.
